New York US House candidate Kyle Van de Water found dead

The former New York Congress candidate apparently committed suicide on Tuesday — less than two weeks after dropping his bid for the U.S. House, government officials and reports said.

Van de Water, 41, an Afghan war veteran who ran for the U.S. House seat representing the Mid-Hudson Valley area of New York last year, was found dead in a Poughkeepsie Rural Cemetery, MidHudsonNews.com reported.

Sources told the publication that his death was being investigated as “possibly suicide”.

Van de Water failed to defeat U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado as a Republican last year and he threw his hat into the ring for a second congressional contest, reports say.

Delgado is heartbroken for his “Kyle and his beautiful family” in a statement.

“We shared a lot of conversations about family and country, and I walked away from everyone knowing that he had a deep love for both of us,” Delgado said.

He did not mention the cause of death but shared the number of the veteran’s crisis lines.

“Kyle’s death is tragic not only on an individual level but also nationally, many veterans across our country are without support and care, their service to our great land is undoubtedly needed,” Delgado said.

“We can and should do well. God bless Kyle’s soul and God bless his family.”

Dutchess County Executive Mark Molinaro said on Twitter that he had his prayers with the family of an Army veteran in an attempt to quell the tragedy.

“Kyle is a warrior who gave his life and prosperity for his country,” said Molinaro, who ran for governor on the GOP line in 2018. Men and women do everything for the sacrifices they make. “

Van de Water was born in Rhinebeck and raised in Pacquiao, according to the bio on his website. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst and Albany Law School before active duty in the military.

In July the candidate said he planned to run for the House seat in 2022, but The Popcopy Journal posted on social media on August 27 that he was closing his candidacy.

“I am truly humbled and forever grateful for all the support I have received over the past few years,” Van de Water wrote on August 27.

“It was an honor to meet so many of you when I toured the district. Unfortunately, conditions in my life have changed and I can no longer give 110% for this effort.”

“For the good of the party and the district, I have decided to withdraw my candidature,” he said. “I look forward to actively and enthusiastically supporting the GOP candidate in 2022.”
